When faced with a problem i’ve never been one for pointing fingers or waiting for someone else to do something about it. So when it comes to my passion for independent businesses and understanding the situation they are in and subsequently our local economies, I don’t see the point in wasting time or energy in blaming governments (past or present), supermarkets or indeed online retailers that don’t pay their tax’s. Whatever the status quo we find ourselves in, if it no longer serves equally all who choose to live and work within it, then that status quo must be challenged through positive actions that will help bring the ship back to an even keel. If we wait for the government it will be to late! if we let the big corporations think they can have it all their own way, it will be to late! Every single person has ownership of our future and it is our responsibility to make sure it’s a future that is right for us, our communities and our planet and not for disconnected governments or corporations focused solely on maximising profits.
As Augustine wrote “Hope has two beautiful daughters. Their names are anger and courage; anger at the way things are, and courage to see that they do not remain the way they are”
